Symposium “Planetary Health Literacy: Interdisciplinary Perspectives, Current Research, and Emerging Directions”

Hosted by the newly established division Planetary Health: Literacy & Prevention of the DNGK (German Network Health Literacy); Organised by Dr. med. Lydia Reismann (University of Bayreuth, Chair of Planetary & Public Health) and sponsored by the Cusanuswerk e.V.

Moderation: Prof. Dr. med. Carmen Jochem & Prof. Dr. Christian Apfelbacher (PhD)

Opening Lecture: Dr. Kristine Sørensen ­–­ International Health Literacy Association (IHLA); Global Health Literacy Academy)

Schedule: Start: 9-10 AM Arrival, 10 AM official start; End: 5 PM joint closing of the event.

This symposium is designed to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue on the current state and future development of research in the field of Planetary Health Literacy. The central objective is to map the diversity of disciplinary perspectives, concepts, and methodological approaches on competency development and measurement.

  • Experts; invited only.
  • 15-min keynote talks on current trends, breakthroughs & open questions. A list of speakers and the schedule is available here.

Category "Pitch"

  • Open to early-career researchers & Master students presenting their thesis
  • 5-min creative pitches – no format restrictions; presentations, posters, storytelling, etc. focusing on the core scientific message and relevance. Creative, humorous, or unconventional formats are explicitly encouraged.


  • Call for Abstracts (01 March – 30 April 2026): closed.

Participation fee: The event, including meals, will be free of charge, but we can only cover travel expenses in exceptional cases.
