Highlights from our Research Symposium on Planetary Health Literacy
24.09.2026
From different places, from diverse institutions, disciplines, age groups, and career stages — we came together to reflect on the current research on Planetary Health Literacy & competence development. It was hosted by our division within the German Network Health Literacy (Deutsches Netzwerk Gesundheitskompetenz – DNGK) and funded by the Cusanuswerk e.V..
It was a great honour to have Adj. Prof. Dr. Kristine Sørensen (Aalborg University) giving an opening keynote "A Journey Toward a Greener Future for Better Health and Well-being"!
The opening keynote was followed by three thematic blocks:
- Climate Health Literacy with applications in rehabilitation (Klima@Reha by Nadine Sänger, IQPR Köln); and insights into the links between voting behavior, media use, and climate health literacy by Fabian Manke-Reimers (Center for Preventive Medicine and Digital Health, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Universität Heidelberg).
- Sustainability-related competencies – exploring ESD perspectives (Ulrike Brok, Chair of Education for Sustainable Development, University of Regensburg); a systematic review how sustainability competence supports health behaviors (Hannah Muth, Prevention and Health Promotion University of Education Heidelberg), and insights on implementation of nurtrion education (Alice Freiberg, Institute and Policlinic of Occupational and Social Medicine, Technische Universität Dresden)!
- Planetary & One Health Literacy – how we can translate the vision into measurement and practice with Carmen Jochem (UBT), Lydia Reismann (UBT), and Jennifer Kallenbach (MSH Hamburg).
And then: the Pitch sessions by Mirna Al Masri, Bethelhem Gashaw Fetene, Anoushka Das, and Daniel Eisberg. Short & creative presentations on their research projects, e.g. the idea of a teaching kitchen.
A big thank you to all participants and to our moderator Prof. Dr. Christian Apfelbacher!
